Summer Infant Lil’ Luxuries Whirlpool Bubbling Spa & Shower Review

The baby is about ready to make his appearance and we’re all looking forward to bath time, especially big sister Emma.

At first glance the Lil’ Luxuries Whirlpool Bubbling Spa & Shower looks fancy. It’s designed to pamper baby with all of the features you’d find in a high end whirlpool tub. I also really loved the idea of a gentle shower feature for rinsing. This tub is chock full of luxurious features as the product name suggests.

The Pros

-Great whirlpool/bubbling features
-Gentle shower nozzle
-Plush bath sling
-Shower/whirlpool unit is removable

This is definitely a tub like no other. Emma had no luxury like this. We used a basic tub with her which had no whirlpool-like features and certainly no shower. We relied on a sling to make bath time as comfortable as possible but it is no where near as comfy as the sling that comes with the Lil’ Luxuries tub.

I love that the whirlpool/shower unit comes out and can be used in the regular bath tub for when baby outgrows this one.

The tub itself makes bubbles for baby when turned on. The smaller unit, when on will create a whirlpool effect and shower. It took us a while to master each feature, but now we know what we’re doing.

The Cons

-Costly to maintain
-Noisy
-Shower nozzle won’t easily stay in place
-Ill-fitting battery compartment

I did have some issues with this product at the time of testing. The unit requires 10 C batteries in total, four for the tub and another six for the shower/whirlpool insert.

The bubbling feature is a bit noisy, which may be startling for an infant. It remains to be seen how mine will handle the noise, but if it bothers him we’ll simply turn it off.

The nozzle for the shower won’t easily fit back where it is supposed to. I wish there was some way to snap it in place.

Lastly, with our bathtub unit, the battery compartment does not conform to the base of the tub which will undoubtedly leave it vulnerable to taking on water, creating a shock hazard. Ours wasn’t even sitting in water and it was wet when we finished testing.

I’m torn on this unit at this point in time. I do love all of the bells and whistles, but I can’t exactly recommend it either. I decided to call the customer service line with regards to the battery compartment issue, and a new tub is being shipped out. I will re-evaluate once the new unit arrives and will update my review at that time.
